Hemorrhoid Treatment

At Pasadena Health and Surgical Institute, we offer an innovative, minimally invasive treatment option for hemorrhoids called hemorrhoidal artery embolization (HAE)—also known as emborrhoid technique. This advanced procedure provides relief from chronic hemorrhoids, especially for patients who have not responded to conservative treatments or want to avoid surgery.

Hemorrhoidal Artery Embolization (HAE)

Purpose: To treat internal hemorrhoids by reducing the blood flow that causes them to swell and bleed.

How It Works:

  1. Imaging Guidance: Using fluoroscopy (real-time X-ray), the interventional radiologist guides a small catheter through a tiny incision in the groin or wrist into the arteries that supply blood to the hemorrhoidal cushions.

  2. Targeted Embolization: Once the hemorrhoidal arteries are identified, tiny particles or coils are injected through the catheter to block the blood flow to the swollen hemorrhoids.

  3. Reduced Swelling and Bleeding: By cutting off the blood supply, the hemorrhoids shrink, symptoms like bleeding and discomfort improve, and the tissues heal over time.

  • Patients with chronic internal hemorrhoids (Grades I–III) causing bleeding or discomfort.

  • Patients who have failed conservative therapy (diet changes, topical treatments).

  • Patients who want to avoid or are not candidates for surgery (e.g., due to age, health conditions).

  • Individuals looking for a less invasive alternative to traditional hemorrhoidectomy or rubber band ligation.

Benefits of Hemorrhoidal Artery Embolization

  • ✅ Minimally Invasive: No cutting or sutures—performed through a tiny pinhole.

  • ✅ Outpatient Procedure: Most patients return home the same day.

  • ✅ No Need for General Anesthesia: Typically done with local anesthesia and sedation.

  • ✅ Quick Recovery: Less pain and faster return to daily activities compared to surgery.

  • ✅ Preserves Anal Anatomy: Unlike surgery, HAE does not damage the sensitive tissues around the anus, reducing the risk of incontinence or other complications.
